Description
Fenghuang – Mythical bird necklace is made of driftwood, silver, titanium, rock crystal, amber, tree cone, micro-granules and covered with acrylic lacquer. Fenghuang, the mythical bird is made up of the beak of a rooster, the face of a swallow, the forehead of a fowl, the neck of a snake, the breast of a goose, the back of a tortoise, the hindquarters of a stag and the tail of a fish. It symbolizes the celestial bodies. The head is the sky, the eyes are the sun, the back is the moon, the wings are the wind, the feet are the earth, and the tail is the planets. I was inspired by this Chinese Phoenix, a very famous and meaningful bird symbolizing rebirth. I’ve abstracted the body into a construction and deconstruction of materials like driftwood, silver, titanium or stones, and gave it a new form powered by colours. It came to reality when pandemic monopolized our headline news. The need for positivity and a brighter future has become more important than ever. Due to Covid-19 we had to stop. We had to pause our daily hurrying, everyday stress and our routine. A new chance to create a world based on love, help and understanding, living in harmony with nature and society. To surround yourself with colours is a good way to think positive. I use anodized titanium to add colour to the metal parts and different stones to highlight the pieces. For me, to create jewellery, is to make the inner world visible. Colours and forms of biological organisms transformed in the mind and through the hands. Amidst the chaos, there is harmony. Millions of fascinating species depend on each other. Some of them fall into oblivion. I want to protect and cherish the natural world. Nature itself defies expectations and comprehensibility.
